Colorful Memories of Black Friday

With Thanksgiving behind us the Christmas season is officially upon us, but I’m not quite ready to leave those fall colors behind.

Instead of searching for bargains at the mall I spent a little time on Black Friday discovering some color in my backyard.

After the horrendously hot and dry weather we experienced this summer I wasn’t sure there would be anything left to bloom in autumn. One at a time the two plum trees in my backyard withered away in the blazing heat. No more resting in the shade on the stone bench under their branches. No more beautiful purple foliage for fall arrangements. Other plants, large and small, succumbed to the stress of the extreme heat. I was saddened by each loss.

As I surveyed my yard in search of something to brighten my table for our pre-Muppet Movie dinner Friday evening I found some pleasant surprises. Each little bloom I discovered made up a bit for the gardening losses I suffered earlier in the year.

I don’t know if any Black Friday mall shopper could have been as excited with their purchases as I was with the little blooms I gathered from my yard.

When I look back on these images I remember the delight of discovery as I snipped each bloom, and I recollect the happy times around the table that evening.

Food, family, friends, laughter.

Time together.

Black Friday, colored with love.

Any colorful memories from your Black Friday experiences?

I felt SO blessed to be a part of this colorful evening. I did notice the beautiful flowers and think how does she manage to have these fresh flowers in November? Everything in your home is always so warm, inviting, and relaxing – thank you so much for sharing it with us. We are some blessed in-laws! Love, Becky

    Hi Laura,
I know what you mean about it being hard to leave autumn behind. I have found it very hard to embrace The Christmas spirit. I am sure it will come!
I love your colourful flower arrangement. Beautiful!
    Have a wonderful week!
    xoxo Ingrid
